Design-Build Project Wins Value Engineering Award

A 4-lane highway project in Somerset County won the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Value Engineering Award on August 4th.  The design-build project, 23620, involved the construction of an 11-mile limited access highway including new culverts, bridges, and an interchange.  The new roadway connects the Meyersdale Bypass with US 219.  The Value Engineering award is given to a project that balances “the competing demands of stakeholders to achieve value for money through innovation, effectiveness and efficiency.”  The project team included contractor Joseph B Fay Co., McTish, Kunkle, & Associates, and Raudenbush Engineering, Inc.  Raudenbush provided core drilling and inspection, lab testing, roadway design, geotechnical engineering report supplement, soil profile plan sheets, and slope design.
