Survey Instrument Operator



We are looking for motivated individuals to join our Survey Group in our Middletown office. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operates instruments and measuring devices needed to complete different types of survey work assignments.
  • Operates an electronic data collector.
  • Operates GPS equipment for completion of static, RTK, and VRS surveys.
  • Downloads conventional and GPS survey data to a laptop or desktop computer as directed by survey supervisory staff.
  • Uses a calculator to perform simple computations.
  • Hammering into the ground of stakes, rebars, nails and other survey markers at designated points and at specified elevations.
  • Marks survey stakes and survey points with elevation, station number, or other identifying marks with the use of magic marker, keel (marking crayon), spray paint, scratches, tacks and other marking devices needed.
  • Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape.
  • Uses metal detector and shovel to recover property monumentation.
  • Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey with a machete or brush axe.
  • Performs courthouse research as required.


Job Qualifications

  • General understanding of all activities associated with performing topographic and boundary surveys and construction stake out for both private and public projects.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Mathematical and mechanical aptitude a plus.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency a plus.
  • Familiarity with PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike field procedures a plus.
